About Me
Acupuncturist & Chinese Herbalist in Sutton Coldfield
Hi! I’m Laura, an acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist based in Boldmere, Sutton Coldfield, offering acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine as part of a thoughtful, integrative approach to healthcare.
My work is rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and informed by modern clinical understanding. I believe deeply in personalised care – not protocols for the sake of protocols – and in creating space for people to feel genuinely heard. Whether you’re seeking support for hormonal health, fertility, pregnancy, pain, stress, or general wellbeing, my role is to support you as a whole person, not just a set of symptoms.
A calm, personalised approach to care
In a world full of conflicting health advice and quick fixes, it can feel overwhelming to know where to turn. My job is to help you make sense of what’s happening in your body and to create a clear, individualised treatment plan that genuinely fits you.
Appointments are completely collaborative. I offer a quiet, welcoming clinic space where you can talk openly about your health, your symptoms, and your concerns — often things that haven’t felt fully listened to elsewhere. Treatment plans may include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, lifestyle guidance, and practical next steps, all tailored to your needs.
Training, qualifications & professional standards
I hold a BSc (Hons) in Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture from the Northern College of Acupuncture, including over 400 hours of supervised clinical practice, and an MSc in Chinese Herbal Medicine, with an additional 250 hours of clinical supervision. And a total of 7 years of university study and training.
I am a member of the Association of Acupuncture Clinicians (AAC) and the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (RCHM), an Evidence Based Acupuncture Affiliate, and I regularly undertake continuing professional development to ensure my work remains current, safe, and clinically informed.
My clinic is fully licensed by Birmingham City Council, I hold an Environmental Health Certificate, and I am up to date with First Aid training – so you can feel confident that you are in safe, professional hands.
I am also part of the working board of the AAC, where I enjoy being proactive in shaping awareness, education, and the future direction of our profession. I also support the RCHM where time allows and have hosted online events for them in the past.
A special interest in reproductive and hormonal health
I am immensely proud of have completed the Advanced Fertility Support Diploma, focusing on Reproductive Immunology, Complex Pregnancies, ART/IVF support and gynaecological conditions such as PCOS and Endometriosis. I support people trying to conceive naturally, those navigating IVF and assisted conception, and those needing care through pregnancy and beyond — always working alongside conventional medical care where appropriate.
While fertility is a key area of expertise, I work with people at many stages of life and with a wide range of health concerns, drawing on the depth and flexibility of Chinese medicine. My current clients range from 12 to 97 years of age and come from all walks of life.
Clinical experience in China & collaborative practice
As part of my professional development, I spent a month working as an acupuncturist and herbalist in a hospital in Nanjing, China. Immersing myself in hospital-based Chinese medicine practice was an experience I thoroughly enjoyed and one that has significantly deepened and refined my clinical work.
Alongside my own clinic practice, I work closely with many acupuncturists, supporting their patients through Chinese herbal medicine. This collaborative approach allows for joined-up, thoughtful care and reflects my belief that the best outcomes come from practitioners and disciplines working together.
Teaching, writing & professional contribution
I am regularly invited to sponsor and collaborate with health and acupuncture-related companies, and I write for several acupuncture journals each year, including contributions to medical journals and research. I have also spoken at seminars on the wide-ranging applications of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
Contributing to the profession in this way is something I value deeply – it keeps my practice curious, evidence-informed, and continually evolving.
Why I do this work
I first discovered herbal medicine as a teenager, after over a year of conventional treatment had brought little improvement to my chronic condition. Twelve weeks of herbal medicine changed my health completely – and that experience stayed with me. Acupuncture entered my life at 18 through my Auntie Phillippa, who used it as part of her palliative care. Seeing the difference it made to her pain, appetite and energy left a lasting impression and gave me the inspiration to become an acupuncturist myself.
Since qualifying, I’ve worked as an acupuncturist internationally between 2017 and 2020, practising in Bermuda, Canada, the USA, Argentina and Antarctica, and speaking at seminars on the wide range of conditions acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can support.
Outside the clinic
Outside of work, I love being outdoors. My partner and I spend as much time as possible hiking with our Jack Russell, Bridget. I enjoy travelling (I’ve visited over 70 countries), growing our own fruit and vegetables, and rescuing ex-battery hens with the British Hen Welfare Trust – which means we’re never short of fresh eggs.
